Everything about the ASUS ROG Phone 2:
As I said earlier, this phone looks like there is no compromise in it and the launch event focused on it as well. There are some major advantages in this phone as well as some small drawbacks. If you’re thinking about going for this device then it will be a good idea to keep these things in mind.
What makes ASUS ROG Phone 2 Great Device?
The price to specs ratio of the new ROG 2 phone looks great. There are some features which make it totally amazing smartphone, even at a higher price than its current price tag. Here are the main advantages which makes it a great phone.
Of course, this is the most highlighting factor of this smartphone. It has 120 Hz refresh rate panel which means it can show up to 120-FPS. It makes the user experience extremely smooth and fast.
It’s not just having higher refresh rate panel, but it’s 120Hz/1ms Full HD AMOLED panel with 10-bit HDR display which makes the display extremely smooth as well as have great colour reproduction.
So, at the end, you’re getting amazing display on your phone with enough pixel density.
Usually, phones at this budget lacks the sound quality through the speakers and most of them already lost the 3.5mm headphone jack.
It’s not true with ASUS ROG Phone 2 though. This phone comes with two front facing speakers which are really loud and have great quality. These are not like many phones which use earpiece as second speaker and couldn’t provide the perfect stereo sound effect.
Also, this phone includes 3.5mm headphone jack which has high quality DAC in-built. Hence, you’re going to enjoy the sound experience with great pair of headphones.
It comes with a massive 6000 mAh battery capacity. It’s great for gamers as well as normal users. It is always great to have higher battery capacity than just faster charging, because the battery capacity degrades with every charging cycle.
Considering you’re having really high capacity battery, you’re going to charge it less number of times than other phones which has lesser battery capacity. Hence, it is going to last longer.
Also, this phone supports 30W fast charging, so charging speed is not slow either. However, do remember that the base variant (8 GB RAM / 128 GB Internal ) comes with 18W charger, however you can purchase 30W charger and use it without issues.
This phone supports dual band GPS, GAL & QZSS as well as single band of GLO and BDS. Hence, you’re going to have great precision of your location which will help you navigate in unknown places without worrying.
It makes this phone great for those rides as well where you’re going to rely on your phone for directions. It has great battery life as well, so another plus point for navigation.
ASUS gave it special attention, so did we. It has four microphones for noise-cancellation which gonna make sure that your calls and gaming conversations won’t be affected by outside noise. It’s pretty good for gamers who don’t want to bother their teammates during an intense match.
It’s a gaming phone, so definitely, ASUS gave special attention to it.
It’s powered by Snapdragon 855+ chipset, which is currently the most powerful processor from Qualcomm. ROG 2 even has 240 Hz touch sampling rate which makes touch latency extremely great, hence gaming on it gonna feel amazing.
It even has two “Air Triggers” which you can map to any button in game and it will let you use multiple fingers to play the game. It’s a great feature for casual players who don’t want to invest their time in learning claw.
There are many accessories which you can use alongside this to improve your gaming experience. It has liquid cooling as well as you can use fan-cooling accessory, if you need better cooling. So, thermal throttling won’t be triggered as quickly as other devices which lack these.
You’ve got headphone jack in it, so no need to use adapter to use it. And if you want to play while charging then you got two separate USB Type-C ports and you can use either of them, as per your convenience.
At the end, it’s a great gaming phone for someone who is hardcore gamer but not on competitive level. It is powerful enough to run most games without issues.

What are the drawbacks of ASUS ROG Phone 2?
It looks great for the price, but there are some drawbacks on this phone as well.
Here’s something which you might not be aware of. ASUS ROG Phone 2 supports 4×4 MIMO with up to 1.2 Gbps (theoretical) LTE speed but only the higher end variant. The base variant only supports 2×2 MIMO with 800 Mbps (theoretical) LTE speed.
It can actually affect the speed a lot if your operator supports 4×4 MIMO on their 4G network. There are not a lot of places in India which support it, but it is worth mentioning.
By the way, I don’t think you should be sad about it. The iPhone 11 which costs ₹64,900 for their base variant in India doesn’t support 4×4 MIMO either, even though its highest speed is 1 Gbps. Another thing is that, iPhone 11 series have Intel LTE modem, hence it’s not as efficient as the LTE modem by Qualcomm on this phone. So, nothing to worry about here.

Design & Weight:
Well, this is a gaming phone and it weighs about 240gms which is pretty heavy. It is totally personal preference when it comes to design. If you’re not gamer then you might not find the bezels good. And overall the design language might not suit you either.
Also, it weighs 240 grams which is pretty heavy for a smartphone. Definitely not for one handed usage. So, do keep this in mind.
There will be many non-gamers who will be buying this device, especially because of the display and battery life. So, this section is obviously important for them.
ASUS is not known for stable smartphones, especially when it comes to their mid-rangers. However, they do provide frequent updates to their latest flagships, but not always without bugs.
With ASUS 6z, they improved a lot but we don’t know yet how much we can trust them about providing latest security patches and OS upgrades to this phone as well.
ASUS ROG Phone, the first one in this series, was not popular due to its extremely high price tag. Hence, it did not receive much updates as well. So, we cannot really say that ASUS won’t provide new updates. However, the updates not gonna be super sleek as in OnePlus devices. Hope they improve on this part.
By the way, it runs Zen UI 6, just like ASUS 6z. It comes with ROG UI on top of it and you can change the user interface as per your preference. If you’re stock Android lover then you won’t be disappointed either.
ASUS ROG Phone 2 is a great device for the price, but soon OnePlus 7T is going to be released as well. So, it’ll be a better idea if you compare both the devices and choose the one which suits your needs and budget better.
For the gamers, ROG 2 is definitely a better buy because soon many games are going to support 120-FPS and OP7T is equipped with 90 Hz display while ROG 2 is equipped with 120 Hz display. So, the gaming experience on ROG 2 gonna be great. Also, OnePlus usually don’t focus a lot on gaming. So, you might also miss out on great touch latency of this device on the upcoming OnePlus 7T.
